FDL is hosted by Guglielmo Marconi University, in the Prati district of Rome — a quiet, elegant neighbourhood on the right bank of the Tiber, a ten-minute walk from Castel Sant’Angelo and twenty minutes from St. Peter’s Square. The area is well served by the metro, full of cafés, restaurants and hotels, and within walking distance of much of the historic centre.

By Air

Rome is served by two airports.

Fiumicino — Leonardo da Vinci (FCO), 30 km south-west, is the main international gateway. Three ways into town:

• Leonardo Express train — non-stop to Roma Termini in 32 minutes, €14, departures roughly every 15 minutes from early morning to around midnight. From Termini, continue by metro (see below).
• SIT Bus Shuttle to the Vatican — a direct coach that drops off at Via Crescenzio 19, a five-minute walk from the venue. About one hour, around €7, roughly every 30 minutes. The most convenient option if you arrive with luggage and are staying in Prati.
• Taxi — official white taxis queue at the Arrivals level of Terminals 1 and 3. The city sets a flat fare of €55 to the historic centre within the Aurelian Walls; the venue lies just outside that perimeter, so state “Via Plinio 44, Prati” and agree the fare before departing. Journey time 40–50 minutes.

Ciampino (CIA), 15 km south-east, is used mainly by low-cost carriers. Shuttle coaches run to Roma Termini in about 40 minutes; the flat taxi fare to the centre is €40.

By Train

Roma Termini is the main railway station, with high-speed connections from Milan (about 3 h), Bologna (2 h), Florence (1 h 35), Naples (1 h 10) and most Italian cities. Some services also call at Roma Tiburtina. From either station, metro line A or B brings you to within a short walk of the venue.

• Metro — line A, Lepanto station, then about 6 minutes on foot along Via Lepanto and Via Plinio. Ottaviano station (line A) is a slightly longer walk. Line A connects directly to Termini (about 15 minutes) and to Spagna, Barberini and Repubblica.
• Bus — lines 30, 70, 81, 87, 280 and 913 stop along Via Cola di Rienzo and at Piazza Cavour, two minutes from the venue.
• On foot — 10 minutes from Castel Sant’Angelo, 15 minutes from Piazza del Popolo across Ponte Regina Margherita, 20 minutes from St. Peter’s Square.
• Taxi — taxis cannot be hailed in the street in Rome. Use a rank (Piazza Cavour and Piazza dei Quiriti are the nearest), the FreeNow or itTaxi app, or call +39 06 3570.
• Tickets — a single ticket (BIT) is valid for 100 minutes on buses, trams and one metro ride. Buy at tobacconists, newsstands and metro vending machines, or use the MooneyGo app; contactless cards also work directly at the metro gates. Day and multi-day passes are available. Current fares: atac.roma.it.
• By car — not recommended. Street parking in Prati is paid and scarce, and limited-traffic zones (ZTL) surround the historic centre.

Prati offers a wide choice of hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs within a few minutes’ walk of the venue. Early September is high season in Rome: we strongly recommend booking well in advance.

Staying in Prati means you can walk to the conference; alternatively, any location along metro line A between Lepanto and Termini gives you a direct connection.

Via Cola di Rienzo, one block away, is one of Rome’s main shopping streets and is lined with cafés, bakeries and casual restaurants — convenient for an espresso before the morning session or dinner after the closing. The Mercato Trionfale, one of the largest covered food markets in the city, is a ten-minute walk.

Within easy reach on foot: Castel Sant’Angelo and Ponte Sant’Angelo, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, Piazza del Popolo and the Ara Pacis, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Book Vatican Museums tickets online in advance.
